Restaurant Furniture: 7 Principles
What I've learned from years designing for high-traffic restaurants, in 7 points.
Restaurant furniture is its own discipline. Fast operations, high maintenance, heavy use — all in one piece.
1. Cleanability comes first
The most beautiful fabric is ugly the moment it stains.
2. A chair must survive 6,000 sit-downs
A restaurant chair gets 6,000+ sit-downs per year. Structural testing is critical.
3. Acoustics start in the furniture
Hard surfaces reflect sound. Soft details absorb.
4. Tight table edges
Half of service leans on the table edge. Soft edge = fast wear.
5. Not uniform — a family
2-3 different chair types enrich the space and prevent monotony.
6. Free guest posture
A guest who shifts posture every 30 minutes feels at home.
7. Renewal plan from day one
If you don't know what will change in 5 years, your design ages in 3.
